Learning objectives
The Second period- first level leads to the certification of the acquisition of basic skills related to compulsory education (corresponding to the first two years of vocational and technical upper secondary education or scuola superiore).
They are courses of study for all those:
- who have obtained the final school diploma for lower secondary school;
- who intend to acquire the basic skills related to compulsory education (necessary to enter the world of work) and continue their studies.
Duration
The course has a total duration of 825 hours. At the beginning of the course there is a period of reception and orientation, the duration of which is equal to a maximum of 10% of the total number of hours:
- Onboarding and orientation stage: 80 hours
- Learning activities: 745 hours
If they have adequate linguistic and digital skills verified during the onboarding phase, students can attend the 745 curricular hours in the “Agorà” mode.
Only students who have attended at least 70% of the hours of the day school can pass the course.
The number of days and hours of lessons per week are different in the different locations where the courses are provided. Lessons can take place in the morning or in the afternoon, based on the requests and organization of the various associated offices.
The competences of the Second period of level 1 courses
The competences for the Second period of Level 1 courses are 16. The 16 expected competences at the end of this learning period are divided into four cultural axes for this pathway: languages axis, historical-social axis, mathematical axis and scientific technological axis.
The Second period of Level 1 courses includes not only the common general competences of the first two years of a technical or professional upper secondary school, but also the European key competences and the citizenship education competences.
Personalization of the study pathway
CPIA students’ learning pathways can be personalised based on the recognition of the competences previously acquired through formal, informal and non-formal learning. A specific Commission (Commissione per la definizione del Patto Formativo Individuale) established in each CPIA is in charge of the process.
After a first phase of reception and orientation of the students, the recognition of competences is organised in three main steps:
- The identification of the competences acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning by the student;
- The evaluation of the competences identified in phase 1;
- The certification of competences and the allocation of credits.
During the certification phase, the Commission analyses the skills identified and evaluated in the previous steps. The Commission has the right to validate and certify only a limited number of competences among those identified, and defines the number of hours needed to finalise the pathway chosen by the student on the basis of the results of the tests conducted in the evaluation phase.
Overall, only competences up to 50% of the total hours of the course attended by the adult can be recognised as credits.
School attendance
The adult education system provides that adults can attend at distance a part of the educational period of the course requested at the time of enrollment, up to 20% of the total number of hours of the same educational period.
The teaching methodology of the Agorà is applied to the Second period of Level 1 courses.

- You can work as a professional or employee in museums, management of cultural services, archives, parks, local authorities, mysteries, superintendences. Or for companies and cooperatives that take care of artistic and monumental assets. You can work within the cultural heritage in the field of conservation or restoration
- You can pursue a career as a sculptor or a painter
- Attending the Academy of Fine Arts which, together with the Degree Course in Conservation of Cultural Heritage, is the natural outlet for an Art School graduate, opens up the world of decoration, visual arts, fashion, communication, of cinematography, comics, the restoration of fine paintings and furniture, and so on. As with any five-year diploma, you can access all university faculties and post-diploma courses.
