Learning objectives
The first period-first level leads to the achievement of the final qualification of the first cycle of education (Scuola media).
They are courses of study for all those:
- who want to obtain the final school diploma for lower secondary school;
- who are already in possession of a qualification not recognized in Italy.
Duration
The course has a total duration of 400 hours, to which it is possible to add a further 200 hours in the absence of primary school certification. At the beginning of the course there is a period of reception and orientation, the duration of which is equal to a maximum of 10% of the total number of hours:
- Onboarding and orientation stage: 40 hours
- Learning activities: 360 hours
If they have adequate linguistic and digital skills verified during the onboarding phase, students can attend the 360 curricular hours in the “Agorà” mode.
If during the onboarding phase the need to strengthen linguistic or other skills emerges, the first period-first level can include additional 100 hours, for a total duration of n. 500 hours.
Only students who have attended at least 70% of the courses can be admitted to the final exam of first period.
The number of days and hours of lessons per week are different in the different locations where the courses are provided. Lessons can take place in the morning or in the afternoon, based on the requests and organization of the various associated offices.
The competences of the First period of level 1 courses
The competences for the First period of Level 1 courses are 22. The 22 expected competences at the end of this learning period are divided into four cultural axes for this pathway: languages axis, historical-social axis, mathematical axis and scientific technological axis.
The first period of Level 1 courses includes additional key citizenship competences, to be acquired by the end of compulsory education, that are defined as follows: learn to learn; plan; communicate; collaborate and participate; act independently and responsibly; solve problems; identify links and relationships; acquire and interpret information.
Personalization of the study pathway
CPIA students’ learning pathways can be personalised based on the recognition of the competences previously acquired through formal, informal and non-formal learning. A specific Commission (Commissione per la definizione del Patto Formativo Individuale) established in each CPIA is in charge of the process.
After a first phase of reception and orientation of the students, the recognition of competences is organised in three main steps:
- The identification of the competences acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning by the student;
- The evaluation of the competences identified in phase 1;
- The certification of competences and the allocation of credits.
During the certification phase, the Commission analyses the skills identified and evaluated in the previous steps. The Commission has the right to validate and certify only a limited number of competences among those identified, and defines the number of hours needed to finalise the pathway chosen by the student on the basis of the results of the tests conducted in the evaluation phase.
Overall, only competences up to 50% of the total hours of the course attended by the adult can be recognised as credits.
School attendance
The adult education system provides that adults can attend at distance a part of the educational period of the course requested at the time of enrollment, up to 20% of the total number of hours of the same educational period.
